The passing of a legend...

Robert Altman died on Monday. I am unexpectedly distraught. He was responsible for so many seminal movies but, oddly, apart from M*A*S*H (which, if you don't love, you have Issues, I firmly believe), the film that I most love him for is Gosford Park. A lot of visual and narrative tropes -- jagged, moving camera-work, overlapping dialogue, multiple intersecting storylines -- in the movies and TV shows that I love today wouldn't be possible if it weren't for him. Hail and farewell, Robert Altman. You will be missed.
