Smallville 8x12: Bulletproof

Things what I loved:

GAETA!!!!! WE LOOOOVE YOU!!! No emoticon could adequately signify my glee at seeing Alesandro Juliani so unexpectedly.

J'ONN! WE LOVE YOU TOOOOOOOO!

TESS! I missed you! Also, the fight between Lana and Tess: eeeeexcellent! I want more of the Lana and Tess dynamic; so much tension, and anger, and jealousy (at least on Tess's part); and it all points back to the third unseen point in the triangle: Lex.

Speaking of Lex, how awesome is it that the show keeps reminding us that, oh yeah, Lex is still around and is dangerous? SO AWESOME. He's the eventual great nemesis, and to ignore the character simply because the actor's gone would do the mytharc a disservice. Rock on, writers!

"You say that like it's a good thing!" and "Not your best plan, Mr Kent." ♥ x infinity! Oh, flirty and bantery Lana! I'll miss you most.

The dilemma this week - moral justice vs. the justice system - was surprisingly complex, and well-handled. No one was denying that the cops were going after actual criminals: Danny explicitly mentions that his partner's murderer got off on a technicality. What I found great was the fact that Clark took the more nuanced side of the argument when debating with Oliver: it's not that easy to separate emotions out of the judicial process, particularly when the sentence seems arbitrary (as it certainly would have to Danny). Clark's really evolved past his more black-and-white approach.

Things what I did not love:

NEEDS MORE LOIS. A lots more, and soon.

And on the subject of Lois, I'm not loving the idea that Chloe's openly discussing Lois's feelings for Clark with him. It's great that she's trying to protect Lois, but Lois is quite a private person who hates to talk about her feelings. She doesn't let herself get into emotionally vulnerable situations, and having her love for and attraction to Clark bandied about so cavalierly by Chloe is insensitive.

Lana, don't leave! You kicked ass in this episode! Now I'm all sad that she's leaving again. I thought Lana's arc had gone to an interestingly dark place just as Season 7 ended, and so it took a while for me to get used to the Lex-and-Lana-free dynamic on the show; and now Lana's back, taking names and being adorably flirty, and she's leaving just as the Clark-Lois-Lana triangle was getting juicy! :(
