Rome
  • Pullo and Vorenus: Was there any doubt that Vorenus would flip out once he figured out that Pullo knew about Evander and didn't tell him? And poor Pullo: he knew that Vorenus couldn't stop asking, and yet he couldn't make himself leave. OUCH.

The shift between Vorenus, Cunning and Fearless Leader to Vorenus, Erastes Fulman 2.0 is jarring. Remember when Vorenus used to be the one reigning in the other headstrong types? I do, fondly. I'm loving Pullo's smarts about the gang-war, though.

...On a side note, Eirene is beginning to grow on me. "Dear Vorenus, I didn't fuck your wife." And then her little grin at the end? It had no right to be adorable, yet it was SO MUCH.

  • Antony: His scenes with Cicero are brilliant: every little twitch from Antony so much as raising an eyebrow is communicated so effectively. And the last minute, with the back-and-forth about needing the threat were handled beautifully.

The killing-the-messenger scene was terribly effective, because it hearks back to Caesar's murder ("Swords in the Senate House? You lot play too rough for me..."). Antony really is no better than Casca and Brutus: if Caesar were his enemy, he would have had no hesitation in doing the same. In fact, he's worse: Brutus, at least, stabbed Caesar truly believing he was doing the right thing.

  • MARCUS AGRIPPA YAY! Heeee, he's infatuated with Octavia already, and they're actually quite cute together.

The thing is? For me, a huge part of why I love this show so much is because of the strong male and female homosocial bonds. As much (and, arguably, more) screen-time is devoted to Caesar and Antony's relationship, to Pullo and Vorenus's relationship, to Atia and Servilia's antagonistic relationship, as to the male-female relationships on the show.

...So the minute Octavian said he was going to visit "his friend Agrippa" in the last episode, I was queeing like a mad fool, 'cause their friendship is the stuff of legends, the we'll-rebuild-the-world-in-our-image kind of thing that Clex 'shippers always get so excited about. And it's going to be AWESOME.

BSG
  • Roslin: Seeing Roslin lose her shit on Baltar was kind of amazing, though it was so obviously going to turn out to be fake.

  • Baltar: Oh, you irritating little shit. I desperately want this neverending "Am I a Cylon?" storyline to end; for him to turn out to be a Cylon would remove every shred of complexity that moral ambiguity that the character has.

  • Kara/Lee/Sam/Dualla: It always surprises me that Lee is as much of a self-righteous ass as he is: Kara, though she is awful to everyone, knows she's flawed and knows that it doesn't excuse her behaviour. Lee, on the other hand, seems to think he should get brownie points for staying in a sham marriage instead of genuinely trying to make it work. Sam and Dualla need to get the hell away from the two of them and go make out with each other.

Next week: Zarek's back! ...and the episode's awesome quotient automatically goes up.

Is it Sunday yet?
